Turlockers who would like to take part in the upcoming May 19 Statewide Special Election must register to vote by 4 p.m. Monday.
Six propositions are on the ballot, all of which were adopted by the State legislature in attempts to balance the budget earlier this year but require voter approval. Proposals range from preventing pay raises for elected officials during budget deficit years to increasing the “rainy day” budget stabilization fund and allowing for borrowing on future lottery profits.
California law provides that any Stanislaus County resident is entitled to vote in the upcoming election should he or she be a legal U.S. citizen who will be at least 18 years of age on May 19. Those in prison or on parole for a felony conviction are expressly disallowed from voting.
Registration forms are available at many public offices, such as the Department of Motor Vehicles, the County Clerk-Recorder’s Office, United States Postal Service Offices, public libraries, chambers of commerce, high schools, and city clerks’ offices, such as Turlock City Hall. A printable form is also available online at http://www.sos.ca.gov/nvrc/fedform/
Voter Registration Forms must either be postmarked or hand-delivered to the Stanislaus County Clerk-Recorder’s Office at 1021 I Street, Suite 101, in Modesto by 4 p.m on Monday.
Any questions should be directed to the Stanislaus County Clerk-Recorder’s Office, which can be reached by phone Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. by calling 525-5200.
